School of Thought #2
A perfect excuse?
We often tend to victimize ourselves and focus on gaining any or some support and attention from others. How we accomplish this is by downplaying another person’s suffering and somehow portraying our issues greater than theirs.
Why do we do this? Is there any
genuine explanation to this? Isn’t it simply the act of selflessness taking a
tumble?
Selfishness leads to greed,
vainglory, jealousy, anger, lies and even murder. Eventually even the least of these lead
to despair and distress. Most depressions in the modern era rise from some form
of selfishness either from the victims themselves or circumstances and people
around, who try to take advantage of the weak. Today, depression is more than a
state of mind. It has become a tool for demanding attention by rejection;
Pushing away family, friends, situations, good thoughts and ideas, and secretly
yearning for that spot where the victim is the 'center' of all attention.
Unfortunately, life isn’t all too
forgiving. Apart from a select few individuals who genuinely care, chances are quite
grim that the victim finds the needed attention or proper help which often
leads to drastic decisions being taken.
Selfishness is a very powerful
weapon used by the Devil to gain control of your mind and more often than not,
depression becomes an offspring born out of it.
This gives rise to the notion
that God is not real or that His word is not true. It drives the person to search
for ways to disprove the fact that a Creator was ever involved in their
existence and eventually blame the so-called ‘Religious Systems’ for making up
‘highly elaborative fictions’.
“What is man that Thou art
mindful of him?” If God, who has every right to be selfish, displayed His
selflessness in being mindful of a worm like you, in that He even graciously
allows you to breathe that next breath of air into your lungs, how dare you, oh
foolish, self-centered human, declare that He is not real?
Yes, even you are precious in His sight! What's your excuse now?
